The Lake Placid Regional Airport opened on September 15, 1930. It was originally named ``Adirondack Airfield''. The original airfield consisted of a grass field measuring . In 1934, a 2,000 foot long concrete runway was built. The airport underwent a $7 million renovation in 2004 which added a second runway, an expanded terminal building and apron, as well as new jetways, taxiways and hangars.
